Why Am I Being Charged for Public Benefit and Energy Surcharge?

The Public Benefit Charge (PBC) and the California Energy Surcharge (CES) are taxes required by the State of California. Fortunately, the funds collected by the PBC can be spent locally and we use them to fund Energy Net, our low-income assistance program, and Energy Efficiency programs such as our Heat Pump Rebate for our customers. The CES is a direct tax that is paid to the State of California to fund the State Energy Commission. Trinity PUD is required to collect these taxes from our customers.

Trinity PUD will continue to work hard to keep rates as low as possible, as that is one of our primary mission goals. We believe that this goal is being met since our rates are among the lowest in the State.
